Dwight Slaikeu, 59, of La Porte City, died Monday, October 3, 2011, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of pancreatic cancer. He was born February 15, 1952, in Fort Dodge, the son of Duane and Doris Cameron Slaikeu. He married Judith Ann Pierce September 5, 1976, in Jesup.

Mr. Slaikeu graduated from La Porte City High School in 1970, attended Iowa State University for one year and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971, with training as a Russian Linguist. Following military service he worked for Dale’s Towing in Waterloo, La Porte City Dairy & Cheese, Inc., and beginning in 1987, was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a Distribution Clerk.     Dorothy L. Shaner

    Dorothy Loris Shaner was born July 16, 1927, at Klinger, Iowa, in Bremer County, the daughter of Otto and Martha Hesse Richmann. She was baptized on August 7, 1927, by Pastor Louis Yockey and confirmed on May 5, 1945, by Pastor Walter Vetter in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Readlyn. She attended the Parochial School through eighth grade and graduated in 1945, from Readlyn High School. After graduation she was employed at the Wholesale Market Office at the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo.

    Services for Robert “Bob” Palmer will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in La Porte City.

    Palmer, 78, of La Porte City, died April 12, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center as a result of an automobile accident.

    Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11 from 4–7 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church

    Donna M. Monnahan, 59, of La Porte City, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Covenant Medical Center of acute asthma attack. She was born May 9, 1951, in Waterloo the daughter of Donald and Marie Brandt Harrington. She grew up on a farm east of Waterloo and attended East High School. She was united in marriage to Isaac “Buzz” J. Monnahan on December 20, 1969, in Spring Valley, MN; he preceded her in death on January 27, 2003.
