Union Cross Country: Welcome Back, Head Coach Parson

As the Union boys and girls cross country teams prepare for the 2012 season, they have a familiar face at the helm. After a six year stint at Wapsi Valley, Head Coach Justin Parson returns to take the helm of the cross country program. For Parson, the success of each team relies upon setting realistic goals for continued improvement as the season progresses.

“I see this team going out each day and doing what is asked of them. We are making progress towards our goal of improving each day. I think it will be interesting to see how both groups support each other through the practices and the meets as the season progresses,” Parson stated.

With the graduation of Brittany Frush, fourth place finisher at the state cross country meet last season, Parson inherits young teams one year removed from a run of four consecutive state championships by the Union girls. Leading the way for their respective teams are Tessa Reiter and Logan Thomsen. Their leadership can play an important role in the overall improvement of each squad.

“If we can be at our best when districts roll around, who knows? If we are unable to qualify a team [for the state meet], I certainly believe we have individuals who are capable of qualifying.

“The kids’ attitude and effort to this point have been great,” Parson added.
